Get to know our volunteers...and some of the people we help

Here you can meet a few of our volunteers and hear why they give up their precious time to help on the FIRST Stop bus. Although every person treated on the bus is kept strictly anonymous, we show you a little taste of the the gratitude people have for the help they receive on the bus...your feedback is hugely important to us - do feel free to take the survey about the bus at

Volunteer Profile...Kirpal

Kirpal is one of our more experienced volunteers and has found the FIRST Stop Bus invaluable grounding and experience for his future career as a paramedic for the NHS. Married with two children, Kirpal works for and helps run his family's taxi company but has reached a point in his life where he is "looking for fulfilment and a new challenge". In 2013 he took a course in professional healthcare practice and is about to embark on a BSc University course in order to become a paramedic. He feels that volunteering on the FIRST Stop Bus provided him with important experience for his course, particularly as the project provided him with training from the police and other agencies on first aid, listening skills, drug and alcohol use awareness and ways of dealing with the public in a medical situation.

I like to give something back...and I like to make sure people are happy and well…
